Hi jdh,
Welcome to the train!

Thank you for your comments.

This is in fact a personal testimony to my own marriage.
The line
"Sometimes it was tough love was not enough, but we made it through."
Tells anyone that love isnt always enough to make it work, that commitment is always required.

My bride of 35 years is truly my best friend.

Enjoy the train ride,

Robert

Thank you for sharing this song,

I like the imagery that it provides the reader with, of children, of relationships, and of the past.  One can relate to it very much in this sense.

Hi Ezra,

Yes I agree that lyrics without music can seem bland and have no life.
I intend to post the music, hopefully soon.

Hey Robert.

I also can make no reference to song lyrics without hearing the music. What sounds trite and flat on paper sounds like the heavens opened up when put to the right music.

These lyrics look fine to me. But without music I hear someone sitting on a bench saying this stuff to someone else.

Lets take Jimi Hendrix guitar out of his songs, or Elton John's piano. It is just nearly impossible to judge song lyrics without hearing the song to me.

James

Robert,

I'm so glad that Daniel commented on this and brought it to my attention. I believe you posted a link for me in response to one of my comments in a poem and I had planned to come back to it for my reply and see that, in fact, I did not. I am glad you found it in any event

I have never written a song and have no musical talent or background so I can't be much help in the crit department. I do like what your song says. I believe the best songs are the ones that anyone can relate to and you have certainly achieved that. I often download lyrics to songs I like just to look at them and it amazes me how flat they appear on paper when you compare them to the life they have when you add voice and music to them, but maybe a musician sees words differently??? It leaves me in awe of the whole musical process.

There really isn't much mystery, a song is a poem put to music.
The difference is, that like the background music, that is added to movies it heightens the experience. Makes it fun, can tell a story.

Diane

In ancient times the poet was called a singer.

I hope that helps.

I am glad you like the lyric. I hope to be able to post the music soon.

Robert

Robert, do you have a tune to go along with this.  I'd SO MUCH MORE enjoy looking this over with a tune running about in my head, since I don't feel a metrical pattern, but I know there is one going on in your head.  I need a mind-meld!

I'll be back to this; I'm focused on several other things just now, but I'm very interested.  Just didn't want you to feel unwanted here!!  Sorry I haven't visited earlier.  I so seldom come down here, and I was totally focused on my own 'creation'... since it's been so long I even tried!

deLighting in the prospect of really getting into yours before long, Daniel  Cool

P.S.  I will be thinking of you, but I don't have a picture of you in my mind's eye just yet... Cheesy

but you could post a picture!  Grin

In my minds eye

In my minds eye

I was looking back at the time we've shared since the day we met.

Life was simple then we were young and soon became more than friends.

I can see you now walking down the aisle.

I’m with my best man.

Not forgotten, it's recorded, in my minds eye.

In my minds eye, are the pictures of our life gone by.

Memories good and bad, happy times and sad ones, recorded there.

I can see them.

I don't even have to close my eyes.

Vivid pictures of you,

In my minds eye.

As we've shared our life, and as I reflect over all the years.

All the arguments, making up and making the best of things.

Sometimes it was tough love was not enough, but we made it through.

These are moments that's recorded, in my minds eye.

In my minds eye I can see the day each child was born.

Each the product of our sweet love, completing our family bond.

From the oldest to the youngest how I love them all.

Each one sharing a place, in my minds eye.

Yes I love you dear and through out the years as our life goes on.

Watching our kids grow I want you to know.

You can depend on me.

And when we're apart all I have to do is to think of you.

And you'll be standing in the middle of my minds eye.

In my minds eye, are the pictures of our life gone by.

Memories good and bad, happy times and sad ones, recorded there.

I can see them.

I don't even have to close my eyes.

Vivid pictures of you,

In my minds eye.

All I do is think of you.

You’ll be standing there.

Smiling sweetly.

In the middle of my minds eye.
