Good message and metaphor Terence.  Occasionally I struggled with the last lines - mainly the first and fourth verses but other than that the flow and meter were very good.

Enjoyed this, thanks for sharing.

prettily worded and thoughtful, it is a rutted road we travel...

The Road to Where?

Print Post
I wander down this lifelong path
not knowing where it leads.
Bright flowers stretch to either side
entangled up with weeds.

A stranger comes towards me and
he shouts a warm “Hello!”
I sit with him a while and ask
where does this pathway go.

He tells me I should pull the weeds
to let the flowers grow
and I will be rewarded with
an endless flower show.

So as I walk along the road
I pull each weed I see,
until another stranger comes
over to talk to me.

Oh dear, he says impatiently,
why do you waste your time,
those flowers will come back again,
the weeds will always climb.

That’s just the nature of the world,
there’s not much you can do
and when you get to this road’s end,
there’s nothing there for you.

By then I was just so confused,
which was the better way?
I sat down in the flower bed -
and there I lie today.
