Thanks for your thoughts, Snow. Though similar, the last 2 lines really deal with 2 distinct subjects that the 'world will hear' - the song/message and the singers/messengers. I feel that distinction is important.

Thanks again, Terence

Birdsong

Sunday mornin’ and the crows
are flockin’ in the field
raisin’ raucous cries to Heaven,
waitin’ to be heard.

But them crows, they cannot fly
from that field untilled
for they’re mired in the past,
in what has been instilled.
But when they put aside that past
they’ll find they can take wing
and have a voice that’s unsurpassed,
and then ...

the world will hear them sing,
the world shall hear their sweet song.

Hi Terence

I really like this and find it to be well written rhyme.

Only one suggestion - is the last line really necessary? To me you've said it in the line before (except for 'sweetly) which makes the last line redundant.
You could change the line before last to

the world will hear them sweetly sing

... which I feel says it all.

Thanks for the read.

Terry, I tend to agree with you, shame we just weren't allowed to see what they could accomplish.

Hi Peach, As usual you provide food for thought. I shall consider. Thanks.

a few suggests that make it clearer to me!

Sunday mornin’ and the crows
are flockin’ in the field
raisin’ raucous cries to Heaven,
prayin’ to be heard.

Why them crows, cannot fly
away from that field,
mired in the past, as they are
in what has been instilled,
what, is holdin' them, back?

If they would set aside that past
voices raised, unsurpassed,
they could lift and take wing,
become a chorus and sing...

then the world could not ignore,
them, could not help
but hear them,
their song become,
eventually sweet.
as familiar and accepted
as any posssibility

Terence,

I was thinking about Dr. King the other day, then a day or two later, the movie Bobby arrived via netflix, now your poem.

I've been on the planet long enough to see 4 Men I consider to have been of great and positive influence during their lives, Jfk, Bobby, Dr. King, and Sadat.  Who knows how much more they might have contributed to the betterment of the world.

A loaded question, Terry, to which I'd say, Dr. King was the last REAL choirmaster.   Wink

Thanks for that reply, Terry.

Yes, most birds are free but only a few are classified as songbirds.

Terence,

Seems to me birds are free, until they land to close to a cat, to close to a
rock throwing child, or hunter.  If they have failed to learn, they will
most likely remain condemend to live in the status quo, and that is to remain chained to the past.

Terry

Thanks for the post, enjoyed.
