Claw,
Although I am not familiar with a lot of her work, she sounds like a fine poet, and it is always a tragedy when someone, famous or not, passes away.  Like Dani, I want to thank you for introducing this woman to us.

I am glad I introduced you to her too, because it prompts me here to finally get around to saying, "Hello again, Dani". Hello again, Dani. Smiley

Dear Claw,

Whether this is the place or not, I am glad you introduced me to her. Seems like she had a playful honest soul, from the verse you posted.

Am sorry for the loss of such a wonderful word artist.

Hugs
Dani

[I'm not certain this is the best place to put this. It would seem to me that the reporting of the death of a poet of note is a worthy endeavour, and perhaps deserving of an area of relevance, as against, let's say, just a general reporting within "Chat". Perhaps, since it's not so common, then here, amongst the "Greats", is the most respectful place]

Dorothy Porter, author of The Monkey's Mask and El Dorado, died this morning. She was 54 years old, and died from "complications with breast cancer". She was an awarded poet in Australia, and her verse-novel, The Monkey's Mask, is an absolute delight, with its working of poetry and verse into detective fiction and more. Although she never won our Miles Franklin Award (probably our premier award for novels and plays), she was nominated twice, both times for verse-novels (What A Piece Of Work and Wild Surmise). Her death was unexpected.

Do you hear
the fighting hiss
of this geyser
in me?

I stand my ground
in the undaunted spray
and company
of my own words.

(excerpted from The Ninth Hour, by Dorothy Porter)
