Iggie,
I liked this.  It reminds me of someone who is confined to a wheelchair or someone who cannot leave their house for some other reason.  Even if this is not the case, it is intriguing.  Very profound.

From behind the window pane,
I stare into my yard,
watching a leaf detach and drift itself
to the ground, once alive
now dead,

on its way to become
part of the earth once more.

The above represents a look at lines 1/2 -- it creates an expansion of those two lines so that we "see". . .and begin to feel what the cycles of life are like. . .this enables the feeling of watching something live then die to become concrete within the realm of the "senses" for the reader. . .it takes it out of the "mind". . .the base logic of something is alive then it dies. . .and puts it someplace we can begin to understand from a whole body concept.

"I look out my window, one frame"

The above basically repeats line 1 -- we know that you are staring out the window. . .same thing as looking out -- while often repetition can work -- in this case it feels unnecessary when we can expand on the one word in that line that is a keeper -- frame.

I'm consumed by frames
that picture the years I've stood
outside and observed,

and today this one frame exposes

"One section of the world just for me"

basically this line could be a keeper with some slight possible modification

and today this one frame exposes
a section of the world-at-large
for me.

"to examine and praise"

Ok -- a glory and laud sentence -- a glimpse into what lays beyond to the spirituality that is filtering into.  Again, make this a visual -- show us the N in examination and praise -- paint us that picture.

Awe-struck my eyes lower to capture
my hands,
the hands that create each day,
that greet my every morning,
and I raise them to my field of vision,
as if I've not seen nor felt them before --
I feel them sing their praise
to what is mine and yours,
to what is ours,

enter last two lines --

"I stand at my window
Life goes by -- but I stand still"

The third time you've told us you're standing by your window. . .imo. . .again repeition we can do without or make sound completely different -- from the middle of your work -- you are very present -- bring that presence in to the end. . .there is a connection between you and your corner of the world even if from behind the frame. . .show us the connection.

and while I stand still in adoration
I live and yet life
continues to filter by.

A few more thoughts -- looking forward to yours.

Hi Iggie

Firstly, a warm welcome to Poem Train and well done for diving in with your first poem.

I'm reminded of a picture book by Jeannie Baker called the window, which shows how the world outside someone's window changes over the years.  The child inside the house grows up and outside the countryside changes - the surrounding area is built on till the whole place is no longer in the country but part of the town.

I agree with Ren, saying show us what she sees from the window - her tiny glimpse of the world passing by when she stands.

Some suggestions, which you can take or leave, adapt etc as you wish.

I look from one frame
of one window,
staring at the outside,
watching as trees blossom,
turn green,
shed brown leaves.

I stand still watching.

Hi Iggie ~  I've not interacted with you before here on Poem Train. . .so first let me say "hey, nice to meet you."  I hope that you are finding your way around well.

You've put this work into the Firebox. . .which can mean some strong critique may be offered. . .we also have our On Track forum for a bit lighter fare of crit. . .

I'd like to begin with your title. . .The Window. . .yet. . .the poem is not about the window. . .it is about the N in front of the window. . .and not truly the N in front of the window but the N contemplating in front of the window. . .I might opt to find a title better suited to the premise of the work. . .

At the window you say. . .I watch the world as it grows, and dies -- telling us what the N is doing.  The world and the N would come more to life. . .if you showed us.

From behind the window pane,
I stare into my yard,
watching a leaf detach and drift itself
to the ground, once alive
now dead,

on its way to become
part of the earth once more.

This paints us a picture of death and life, cycles, in our world. . .

you, of course, cannot see the whole of the world from your window. . .show us what you can see. . .

I'd be happy to line by line the rest of this if you are so interested. . .just let me know in comment.

A nice structure to begin fleshing out.

A nice metaphor for loneliness of individuals.

Motion is relative, you probably are not standing motionless at all.  The mirror shows our greenery turning to gray.

The Window

I stare at the world
I watch as it grows, and dies
I look out of one window, one frame,
One section of the world just for me
To examine and praise
I stand at my window
Life goes by… but I stand still.
