good question
dear dan, let me see
how free verse
as lim’rik would be
methinks
it would change
from looking so strange
if the one that had writ it
was thee

Let's see now...
what might a free verse limerick look like, and how
would we
ever see
what made it a limerick or distinguished it from a three-legged cow?

free versers are thought to be lazy
but that is a judgment that’s crazy
though form can be great
it’s nice not to hate
what comes to yer head anyway-z

expression’s a wonderful thing
seen here in how words seem to ring;
whatever the form
metre may be the norm:
but choices help poets to sing

I’m sure glad to see you in this thread
lets hope the limericking mania will spread
to one and all
we’ll have a ball
or maybe just a rhyming-time instead!

I’m from the school of thought
that free-verse writers are overwrought
with making the grade
to masters of the trade
but without it I would surely be distraught!

the girl from UK on the train
though already packing for Spain
can count 1-2-3
better'n me
so i doubt if she's goin' insain

some folks think that writing free verse
is something they think of as worse
than not writing at all!
they're not making the call
Thank Goodness! 'twould sure make me curse

There was poor girl from over the sea
who couldn’t quite count a beat of three
her head full of Spain
it drove her insane
until they put her under lock and key

With poets she wished to converse
as her word skills are stuck in reverse
so back on the train
where form seems to reign
she searched for some ‘bloody’ free-verse

(* smile *)

That hanker for just-one-more-timin'
c'n lead to fergettin' the rhymin'
but I ain't be yellin'
if no one be's tellin'
Diane... 's not that she's been a-crime-in'!

The beat is the thing that most matters;
the rest c'n blow up all in tatters,
'cause three-steppin', three-steppion',
two-steppin', two-steppin',
three-steppin's really what splatters!

Nabbed
A worm that was wiggling got curious
when he saw an old  fisherman furious
he offered his help
and let out a yelp
'cause the fisherman's fury was spurious

Silent Serve

my freezer's not helping my diet
the ice cream there's saying "just try it"
i try to say no
but I can't shut the do'
and find myself fatten’n in quiet

Why didn't she?

a chicken thought crossing the road
was one kind of journey she owed
to all of the folks
who tell chicken jokes
but she couldn't decide on the mode

she thought about hailing a taxi
but fares were far out of her range
she saw a cell phone
and made it her own
yet couldn’t make even one call

it rained and it snowed where she stood
she had no hope of crossing the road
some old broad picked her up
put the bird in her truck
now the jokesters won't have to ask why

Bally toidy

We used to fix kitties a sandbox
so they wouldn’t have to distress
but now boxes glitter
with what’s known as litter
that’s often a whole ‘nother mess

Just couldn't let go. but, gone now. Roll Eyes

There are some folks who can't take a drink
'cause it's dangerous for 'em; I think

'cause ya don' need a brew
ta laugh ... an' not end in the clink!

To party without alcohol is a crime
Even if the celebration is in rhyme
I think Norm may be right
I see this party taking flight
Just excuse me if dance out of time

I was thinking just the other day
That with words I’d like to play;
Stimulate my brain
Back on the train
That I know will head the right way

So come join our party if you dare
Norm and Daniel are already there
With British beer
And American cheer
The good times we’re ready to share

If you wirt with your mitherly gort
there'll be no one to glipse on his whohrt,
but if schlitzem can flib
to go up to their nyibb,
everyone can be quirply psyckort.

Ask the Jabberwok Furple of Gleem
if ol' Carroll had vowked in he dream
and you'll crilk upon wurtz
when you bowk that it murts,
and the youxhopper flugs will shout Bhleem!

Daniel ---

So you're pilling, not spilling but willing
to write all these that are killing
my sense to be serious
you make me deleious
like jabberwocky and all that "'Twas brillig".

orfor you purists out there, maybe that should be:

So you're pillig, not spillig but willig
to write all these that are killig
my sense to be serious
you make me deleious
like jabberwocky and all that "'Twas brillig".

I think I have forgotten how to move
My legs just won’t get with the groove
I might just be fine
If I ply Daniel with wine
So my limericking skills he will help improve
