This is really well written for something just written, if you know what I mean.  I don't believe you could have said it better.  I can relate to this, even though I'm still just in my forties : )  You just never know when that last day will be,  it will come "like a thief in the night".  Well at least death can't steal the poems already written!

I still haven't written day 4 yet, so it will be in hopefully before midnight.  We had to drive a couple hours up north to visit my son in rehab.  It has been a very stressful time for us.

note: This is a sonnet form I invented years ago -- Daniel named it the  "Progressive Sonnet."  See if you can figure out what the basic rule of this form is.  (Daniel gives a full explanation of it in the link below my poem.

Endings Begin - Progressive Sonnet

As death begins
by accident;
blessings and sins
unrepentant

Some repent, you realize
in case there’s a reward;
must be done ‘fore demise
‘cause time will cut the cord.

I’ve cordon off the years gone by
as if I’m due so much more time
to right the ship and then thereby
become the mariner of the rime.

Our words and deeds will surely mend or rend
how I’ll be written as life meets its end.
