nas and Tim,

Thanks guys --- I love writing poems about the art of poetry and the forms and devices.  I hope they resonate.

Yay! Norm and Daniel in the same thread. Hello to both of you.

Near rhymes are also what songwriters use except in children's songs or comedic effect (like Weird Al) when the purity of rhyme moves the song into light verse-like version.

Love it.

Namaste,
~Tim

Hit-or-Miss Rhyming

Once I thought I was near Rhyming,
but he had left; my timing
was more than an hour off,
and I could feel him scoff.

Since then, I've concluded
that Mr. Rhyme could be clouded
or occluded, shrouded, slanted,
twisted, or even re-painted.

As you said, poets have done it
for years, so we can't drown it;
it's best to just go along
for the ride... or be alone.

Near Rhyming

Some ask me, "What's near-rhyming?"
It's not easy to explain;
Usually I just answer smiling,
"Well, when the rhymes behave
just a little differently
usually at the end of lines
not exact, but friendly,
they sort of sound like rhymes"

Some purists dis that practice,
Playing the role of stickler;
Thinking it shows slackness,
But it still works for the listener.

Look>>>
Famous poets all have used them for many, many years.
Half rhymes, slant rhymes, lazy rhymes....who cares?
