I thinned it
to give it a sing-songiness-
you may or may not choose
to leave the word,"beauty" out,
but a reader is likely to figure out the smile is sly
and as any arguement "it's all the same to me"
sits well and still is understood, since, almost everything
ends up, tasting like chicken, anyway! Tongue

The Fox and the Peacock

“I hear you are quite clever”
the Peacock told the Fox,
“no matter all your cunning,
you’ll never match my looks.”

The Fox smiles, ”Right, you are!"
the most dazzling, I may see,
but after all is said and done,
it all, tastes the same to me.”

I'm pleased you liked it, Chana, and yes it is a playful play on the maxim 'beauty is only skin deep'. Smiley

Shalom
Actually I can see a wonderful meaning about the fallacy of perfect looks...
In any case even if it is silly I really like it...Chana

Hi nas,

Thanks for your response. The poem is my own origination, not a copy, it's just meant to be in the style of Shel Silverstein. "looks/fox" is a sample of 'off rhyme' or 'slant rhyme'.

Good message in this Terence

I don't know the original poem but my only quibble is with the lack of rhyme fox/looks.  You could change looks to locks.

Not so serious this time, a Silverstein-like poem.

The Fox and the Peacock

“I’ve heard you are the clever one”
the Peacock proudly told the Fox,
“But yet, with all your cunning ways,
you’ll never match my lovely looks.”

The Fox replied, ”Oh yes, you are
the prettiest bird that I may see
but after all is said and done,
your beauty tastes the same to me.”
