Consider some changes while maintaining the gist, I think?.
Consider title change...After YOU!

I wanted to hold on…

Your feelings for me, were never in question
Loving you more than I ever envisioned
But we, together, were not to be destined
Somehow we just couldn't find the right reason

They say that love can withstand any sorrow,
But one can't catch a star by standing tiptoe
Loving as we did overwhelming I know
Believe that I'm saving us letting you go

Don’t worry forever not likely to be
The duration of time for us to work free
We will manage to make it if just barely
In time, you'll see it, without the misery

Know that this was never a game or charade
It is for the best I am breaking away
A new beginning for us begins today
Good-bye, be well, now I'll be on my way

Even now halfhearted I look in your eyes
Only dusk reflected where once was sunrise
Impossible to turn time counterclockwise
Nor can I turn back to the sound of your cries

Know as dawn paints its glow on the horizon,
The we that we've been will be over and done
Its my life to face whether you're here or gone
I lost too much of me, the more I held on.

This does feel as if it should be set to music.  Heartfelt sentiments though I wasn't too keen on:

Quote:
Someday my heart won’t be blistery
.

and you could probably lose "up" in this line

Quote:
You were my dawn up until today

Enjoyed the read, thanks.

Jan,
This is beautiful.  After reading this and your song I see you are a very talented poet and lyricist.

P.S. I'm not a stalker really...lol  I'm just a night owl who happens to log on around this time here, too.

I wanted to hold on…

Your feelings for me, I never questioned.
Your love was more than I envisioned.
But we just weren’t destined.
That couldn’t be reasoned.

They say love should stand the sorrow,
But now I’m only on tiptoe.
I do love you so much, I know.
That’s why I’m letting you go.

Don’t worry about me.
It won’t take forever for me to be free.
Though I can stop my tears barely,
Someday my heart won’t be blistery.

Yeah. I know this sounds cliché.
But for the best I’ll head my way.
You were my dawn up until today;
My spark of light of each new day.

I am here halfheartedly waiting for the sunrise
The dusk reflected in my eyes.
Wish I could turn the time counterclockwise
But my decision is not just a surmise.

And when morning twilight paints the horizon,
I have to let my wonderful scenery be gone.
And I have to face life on my own
After dawn.

Sorry…I couldn’t hold on.
