Can you give NAS any of the cadence count verses?  I think i can recall two or three if you can't....I recognize Jody well and didn't know he was still around.  Enjoyed the lines...well not enjoyed, maybe appreciated would be better.

The true cost of war - death.  There are no winners  only loss.  Could you explain what Jody is?

I rarely comment on war poetry. . .except to say that I feel all war is an atrocity. . .

and may peace begin at home. . .in the heart.

Thanks for sharing.

dawn to dusk

the silent dawn
gun powder fills
the air
the ground rumbles
as the armor rolls
the occassional
blast
the billows of smoke
rising
soldiers move ahead
hut-ho-hut ho
the cadence sounds
for some there will
be no Jody
today
march on march on
twenty five or more miles
packs heavy legs aching
cries in the wind
stir the soul
someone yells
halt
fallout    take 10
nigh on dusk
a few hundred yards to go
streaks of white and amber begin to
whiz overhead
dig in     is the shout
for a brief moment
silence   so brief a moment
thoughts of home, of mom
of wives and kids
pass the mind
and back to reality
the whistle of rockets
the screams    the cries
the agonies
the ground trembles
again
dawn again
more will not hear
Jody today
hut-ho hut-ho
Thank you Lord
for America
Rat-a-tat-tat-tat.....
