Around here, it has become common place for grandparents to be raising their grandkids (if that is a word). Teenagers are having babies and their parents are raising them. My grandfather would say that it kept him young.   Grin

Yeah it's just a simple poem about his life. He had 5 kids, and I can't count how many grandkids Wink

My Nana was a childminder, so she always had children around the house. Still does.

This reminds me of my grandfather.  He lived on a farm in VA.  He had grandkids hangin off him always... a very likable person

Granddad’s Thin Smile

I fancy he wears an epidemic
sweltering a boy,
a cow’s heart bubbling in a blackened pot,
sunburned conscription
in dusty towns splattered with dysentery,
a fist in the eye,
skirts in the air, then life made on a shotgun,
kids hanging off him
and a brain jolting through layers of sleep
on that thin smile.

It’s really something his granddaughter said
that sounded silly.
