Cyhydedd hir: Cliches, if you will
     © Norman S. Pollack

I know I forgot
I do not know what
I simply cannot
Stop this scheming;
I can't be denied
What is here inside
So words are applied
Love redeeming.

Not ending until
The planets stand still
Cliches, if you will,
A well planned plot;
As long as I'm heard,
I won't be deterred,
Though sounding absurd ...
It's all I got!

Cyhydedd hir

Cyhydedd hir  (cuh-hee-dedd heer) is another Welsh form, consisting of an eight line stanza formed of two quatrains.

Each quatrain has three lines of five syllables that carry the same rhyme, b.b.b...c.c.c. d.d.d...e.e.e.... etc
The fourth line is of four syllables and carries the main rhyme, thus:

x x x x b
x x x x b
x x x x b
x x x A
x x x x c
x x x x c
x x x x c
x x x A

x x x x d
x x x x d
x x x x d
x x x B
x x x x e
x x x x e
x x x x e
x x x B

etc.

GIVE IT A TRY -- This one is not too difficult.

Here's my example:

Marah
- a Cyhydedd hir**

It so distraught her,
the bitter water,
then someone sought her
and with blind hands,
made Marah sweeter,
but couldn't treat her
again he'll meet her
where Elim stands.
